Southern California may be home to Los Angeles, the 2nd largest city in the United States, but the region is much more than this. Los Angeles offers the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, but the nearby desert area, Palm Springs in particular, is an underrated treasure.
Palm Springs is located about 2 hours East from Los Angeles and about 2 hours Northeast of San Diego. The city is known most for its luxurious resorts, unrivaled golf courses and facilities, and its continually sunny, desert climate. Palm Spring’s proximity to its star-studded neighbor means that the city has also had its fair share of celebrity residents including the late Frank Sinatra and Debbie Reynolds, and more recently Leonardo Dicaprio.
When visiting Palm Springs, you cannot avoid the glorious, pristine nature surrounding it. This allows visitors to view the wilderness of Mt. San Jacinto State Park from a unique 8,500 ft perspective. Once the tram reaches its peak location, you can choose to explore the natural history museum, over 50 miles of hiking trails, and several restaurants. Joshua Tree National Park is about a 35 minute drive from Palm Springs and is the culmination of rich history, extensive biodiversity, and breathtaking natural scenery. Visit Joshua Tree to educated yourself on the Native American influence and importance in the area dating back more than 5,000 years or take part in hiking, camping, horseback riding, and much more throughout the state park.
Palm Springs is probably best known for being home to the legendary Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, which is perhaps one of the most famous festivals in the entire world. The event welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors to its grounds each year for two weekends. If you can score a ticket to Coachella this year, the lineup includes Beyonce, Eminem, and Cardi B.
Having personally lived in Southern California, I can attest to everything wonderful that Palm Springs offers. I plan to revisit this part of the West Coast in the next few years, with a full Coachella experience being a part of my bucket list, and will definitely be using RoomShare to start planning the trip. When every hotel room in Palm Springs and the surrounding area is completely booked, RoomShare will be there with plenty of reservations to choose from.
