What should I do if I am uncomfortable sharing the room with a guest?

Your safety and comfort are always a priority. If you find that a guest isn't a fit based on your preference or interests, you can decline their booking request or cancel the booking.

Before you've accepted a booking request

Once you receive a booking request from a guest, you have complete flexibility to visit the guest’s profile & then based on your personal likes & dislike accept or reject the request. Declining an individual booking request won't negatively impact your listing's placement in search results—however, if you decline many or most booking requests, your search result placement may be negatively impacted.

After you've accepted a booking request

If you've already accepted the booking request & the guest has made the payment, you can stillcancel it. You may be subject to cancellation penalties as per RoomShare’s cancellation policy.

What are the safety tips I can follow as a host?

Being a host comes with certain responsibilities. Here are some resources to help you have a safe and pleasant room sharing experience.

Interact smartly

Always pay and communicate via RoomShare. Use RoomShare chat system to get to know your guests and share expectations about the trip or your listing. Read profiles and reviews of your potential guests, and look for verified phone numbers and connected social networks.
Trust your intuition: If you don’t feel right about a booking request, don’t accept it!

Set requirements for your listing

You can set clear requirements for your room sharing partner through your preferences and we will make sure you always find a compatible room sharing partner having similar interests and preferences.

Read RoomShare’s Responsibility - Host page

This presents a generic set of guidelines or best practices for the host to make sure the room sharing experience is good for both the host and guest.

What are the safety tips I can follow as a guest?

As a guest there are certain guidelines which help ensure a safe & pleasant room sharing experience.

Get your facts right

Look at the profiles and reviews of potential hosts before you book, and check for verified phone numbers and connected social networks. If you'd like to know more, you can always get in touch with them through the RoomShare chat system. It's also a good idea to read everything the host has posted about their listing in the description, the amenities, and the partner preferences so there won’t be any surprises. Also have a thorough understanding of our cancellation policy before you confirm a booking.

Pay and communicate on RoomShare

Paying or communicating outside RoomShare makes it harder for us to protect your information and puts you at greater risk of fraud and other security issues. That's why we prohibit paying for a reservation outside our website in our Terms & Conditions and strongly encourage you to communicate using our chat system.

Set clear expectations

After your initial research about the host & listing, you can get in touch with the host before you place a booking to understand the host’s requirements and other information about the hotel location, amenities etc. Trust your intuition: if you don’t feel right about a specific room listing, don’t book it!

Be a considerate guest

While you are looking for a perfect room listing with a good room sharing partner, being considerate to the host’s requirements is also important as it helps build a sense of trust and commitment.

Why should I pay and communicate through RoomShare?

Paying and communicating through RoomShare helps ensure that you're protected under our Terms & Conditions, cancellation and refund policies. It also makes it easy to find and reference important reservation details like a listing's address, your itinerary, check-in details, and other useful information. We can’t provide these benefits if your reservation isn’t booked and paid for directly through RoomShare.
Paying or communicating outside of RoomShare also makes it harder for us to protect your information and puts you at greater risk of fraud and other security issues, such as phishing.

Why was text removed from my RoomShare chat thread?

We remove text from messages when our system detects words or numbers that might include contact information. Communicating or paying outside Roomshare can put you at risk, so we do this to help protect you from potential online fraud. We ask that you communicate only through the RoomShare chat thread until you have a confirmed booking. After a reservation is accepted, the phone number, listing address, and your email address are automatically shared. By communicating and booking directly through RoomShare, you’ll have access to our secure payments platform and 24/7 customer support.

How do I know if an email is really from RoomShare?

Occasionally, people create fake emails or websites designed to look like RoomShare. These sites can be used to try steal personal information, like your password or bank account info. This is often called phishing or spoofing. If you receive an email or are directed to a website that looks like RoomShare but asks for confidential information, be cautious. When in doubt, always start at the RoomShare home page. Type http://www.RoomShare.co in your browser and go from there. You can tell if an email is really from RoomShare by looking at what comes after the @ symbol. All official RoomShare emails will come from an address that ends in @RoomShare.co.

What should I do if someone asks me to make a payment outside RoomShare’s platform?

RoomShare will never ask you to pay off-site or through email. If someone messages you on RoomShare and asks you to contact them off-site to arrange payment details, don't respond, report it to us instead. You can report this to us by getting in touch with us through the contact form.

What are the requirements to book on RoomShare?

We ask everyone who uses RoomShare for a few pieces of information before they share a room on RoomShare. Guests need to have this info completely filled out before they can make a booking request. This info helps make sure hosts know who to expect, and how to contact the guest.
Certain basic things that are essential for guests to place a room sharing request and book are:
1. Full Name
2. Email Address, preferably verified
3. Verified Mobile Number
4. Agreement to RoomShare Terms & Conditions and policies

How do I verify my mobile number?

To verify your phone number:
Go to Edit Profile on RoomShare. Next to Phone Number, click Add a phone number.
Click on Verify button. We'll send you a 4-digit code via text message (SMS).
Enter your code and click Verify
If you don’t see a confirmation message, try refreshing the page. If the method you chose isn't working, try the other one.
After verifying your phone number, you can manage text message notifications by going to Account and choosing Notifications Settings on the left. As always, standard message and data rates may apply for any messages sent or received. For questions about these rates, get in touch with your phone provider.

Why verify?

Having a verified phone number gives your hosts, guests, and RoomShare a way to contact you about your reservations or your account. Hosts are required to verify their phone numbers before listing their hotel rooms, and guests must have a verified phone number before confirming a booking.

How can I keep my account secure?

Review the tips below to learn more about how you can help keep your account and information secure.
If you make a change to sensitive account information, we may send you an account alert or ask you to confirm the change by entering a security code sent to your verified phone number.

Password strength

Create a password that's at least 8 characters, and contains a unique combination of letters, numbers, and symbols. Don't use the password you create for your RoomShare account for other accounts (ex: your email account). You can update the password through the security option in your account settings.

Online security

A few general guidelines to help you stay safe online: Always log in at http://www.RoomShare.co: Check any page's URL before you enter your login info—when in doubt, you can always type http://www.RoomShare.co directly into your browser.
Turn browser security alerts on: Many newer browsers have built-in security protection that might be able to warn you if you're about to visit an unsecured website. Install a pop-up blocker and antivirus software: Install a pop-up blocker or antivirus software from a trustworthy source. Remember to run scans for viruses and malware frequently, and keep your antivirus software up-to- date.
Check the sender: Don't click any links or download any attachments unless you know and trust the source.

Off-site payments and messages

RoomShare will never ask you to pay elsewhere—and we ask that you keep all payment and communication on the RoomShare platform. Don't share your email address before a booking is accepted or transfer funds outside the RoomShare system, and always carefully examine emails claiming to be from RoomShare.

How can I make my password strong?

Using a strong password for your RoomShare account makes it harder for people to gain access to your account without your permission. The password you choose should be easy for you to remember, but hard for someone else to figure out.
Create a unique password
Make sure your RoomShare password is different than the passwords you use for other websites, like your email or bank account. That way, if someone figures out your RoomShare password, they won’t be able to use it to access your other accounts (or vice versa).
Change your password often
If someone knows your password, they might be accessing your RoomShare account without your knowledge. Changing your password often helps prevent this kind of unauthorized access.
Use at least 8 characters in your password
Make sure your password is at least 8 characters long, and try to use a mix of special
characters (#, $, &, !, etc.). You should also avoid using common words or phrases in
your password, and never include personal information.
